America had a good run. It was a nice Republic while it lasted, but now it is turning to empire at a rate that is unprecedented. The Roman Republic at least took a few generations to fully collapse! But within a few months we are seeing laws proposed in our Congress that absolutely tear the Constitution and human rights apart!

I won’t get into what caused all of this, but simply show how bad off we are now.
Observe two pieces of legislation.
The first is this, as I hope you’ve seen around. It’s the new internet legislation bill:
http://vimeo.com/31100268
The video explains it much better than I could. I will summarize briefly the impact it would make, taking this line from what I just linked to: “Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.”
Not to mention the public is overwhelmingly against this, both in personal interactions with people and in an online poll at the nonpartisan opencongress.org: 23 in favor / 1006 opposed
The overwhelming majority is against this.
BUT THIS ISSUE IS MOOT, NEXT TO THIS ONE:

I will summarize this one, in story form:
The end goal, of course, is to reduce the average American’s rights against the government to zero. Sound absurd? I will quote Senator Lindsey Graham:
“The homeland is part of the battlefield and people can be held without trial whether an American citizen or not.”
YOU. An American citizen. We won our independence from the British in a bloody struggle for human rights that then lit up across the globe, perhaps making the world as obsessed with human rights as it is now. Now, the country that has been proclaimed as a light upon a hill is renouncing it all.
Our country has a fatal disease, and we must address it!
We’ve been so willing to fight for others freedoms recently, but what about our own? Will we stand up for ourselves? Will we stand for a better tomorrow?
This is the height of absurdity. We are Americans, we are supposed to stand for freedom, justice and the American way. Our “leaders” are saying the American way perverts freedom and abolishes justice.
And lobby your Congressman about this! If he votes/voted for it, remember that and vote him out next election cycle.
You can contact your Congressman here: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/
Or, you can sign this petition to impeach any Congressman who voted for it:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/892/petition-to-impeach-all-senators-who-voted-for-us-is-a-battlefield-and-to-detain-us-citizens-without/
I don’t know what you will choose my friend, but for me and my house I say: Give me Liberty, or give me death.
I’ll end with this quotation of Martin Niemöller[2]:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
